CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS
by Jon Downes and the Amphibians from Outer Space

To mark the tenth anniversary of the release of this CD, we
are posting it here for free, for a limited period only.
This was arguably the band's best recording, and it is sad
that they split up about three months after its release

The lineup on this record was:

Jon Downes: Vox, guitar, keyboards
Natalie Board: Vox
Lisa Peach: Vox
Marcus Sims: Bass Guitar, vox
David Penna: Drums, vox
Peter Popert: Guitar
James Farebrother (aka "Big Jim Crawfish"): Piano, organ, cello, guitar

Spanish Ladies

Sir Francis Drake didn't die of dysentry. He accidently sailed into the Bermuda
Triangle from whence he returned a few years before the
Millenium. He was so disgusted with the concept of a United
Europe where his old enemies were now colleagues, that he
became an alcoholic, broke into the European Parliament,
vomited over the statute books, and stole a ship so he could
return to the Bermuda Triangle, where he was abducted by aliens.

Not a true story (as far as we know)

The Prince's Song
Backalong (as they say in Devon) no-one had any idea
that the Charles/Diana/Camilla saga would pan out like
it did. This song is an unrequieted love song sung
by Prince Charles. Sadly Jon's first wife thought it was about her.
Perhaps it was!

The title is a play on the autobiography of the Duke
of Windsor which was published in the `50s.

The Case
Two schoolchildren run away from home and
hitch-hike to Ireland in order to meet Tony "Doc" Shiels.
On the way they encounter Saddam Hussein.

They also meet two mail-order brides in a pantomime horse
costume, and a contract killer. It goes
without saying that all the band - but especially Jon - were
as mad as a bagfull of cheese when this record was made.
Also, not a true story, but it contains some of the
most bonkers piano playing James ever did..

A Fistful of Prozac
Now you know what happened to Jon's first marriage.
This is a slightly scary look inside his head
at the time that he was just about to fall apart.. Great song though!

And as an added bonus:

I got dem old Roswell blues again mama
from his 2003 CD Lost Weekend

It was written in Nick Redfern's spare bedroom in Nederland,
Texas in December 2003, just after the dynamic duo had attended a particularly
excrutiating UFO Conference in Las Vegas.
